B4 Finance Ecosystem: The specific opportunities and challenges that women encounter in the financial landscape

The latest B4 Ecosystem, hosted at Charles Stanley’s offices in Oxford, delved into the specific opportunities and challenges that women encounter in the financial landscape. Senior Investment Manager, Sara Anscombe explained how professional advisors can provide tailored support and guidance to help women navigate these challenges effectively and by addressing these topics, Sara and her colleagues hope to build confidence and contribute to a more inclusive and dynamic investment community.
Alongside Relationship Manager, Katrina Gane, Sara began the ecosystem with some financial headlines including the top seven stocks to invest in, the volatile political landscape in the US and rumours of civil war if Trump returns to office and China’s attempts to stimulate the economy by circulating vouchers for anything from eating out to trips to the cinema. The main economic headlines in the UK obviously focused on the forthcoming budget and the uncertainty over the new government’s big decisions.
The discussion then moved to the specific opportunities and challenges that women encounter in the financial landscape and key takeaways included:
- Women weren’t allowed bank accounts in their own name before 1975
- Sara is seeing more women getting more involved in the household finances with divorce rates rising and women surviving longer
- Sara quoted that 72% of women feel they’re not heard in financial conversations
- The younger generations are more financially aware, it’s the 30’s to 40’s that are struggling to take more control of or get more involved in financial decisions
- Women are more risk averse than men
- Women investors outperform men by 1.8% – Warwick Business School
