Leading crate service provider phs Teacrate has opened its first dedicated food crate wash site in Edmonton in North London, increasing its food crate washing service capacity across the UK by nearly 30%.
It is also the first move into the south of England for the business, which is part of the phs Group, opening opportunities for 500 more food manufacturing customers to be serviced every year.
The site, based on Princes Road in Edmonton, will focus solely on washing food crates for food manufacturers in the south and has the capacity to wash over 160,000 crates per week.
Existing staff from phs Teacrate have been transferred to the new site and two new jobs have been created. This is expected to rise to 10 new job opportunities within the first year.
The site in Edmonton will wash food crates, dolav reusable pallet bins and bread trays for food manufacturers and plastic tote boxes, designed to stack when full or empty for pharmaceutical and retail customers across the south of England. The dedicated wash site consists of a wash area, warehousing, meeting rooms, offices and a general staff recreation area.
phs Teacrate is the market leader in crate rental services with sites across the UK, including Manchester, Durham, Livingston in Scotland and Curdworth in Birmingham. It provides crate rental and washing and packaging to different sectors including removals and storage, food processing and distribution and retail. It moves over nine million crates a year and has capacity to wash over 600,000 crates per week nationally.
Luke Staton, Managing Director of phs Teacrate, said; “Strategically, this is an important move for phs Teacrate. With a site in the south, the business can satisfy increasingly demand from food customers and continue with its ambitious growth plans, create new jobs and an even wider national reach achieved. Operations look set to rapidly expand within the first 12 months in Edmonton.”
“With an accessible site in the south, we can expand our capacity to service up to 500 new customers in the region, as well as reducing our carbon footprint when servicing existing customers in the area too.
“We have a first-class team on site, including Ian Cairns, our National Food Business Manager, who will be heading operations at Edmonton. He has over 21 years of experience in the food manufacturing sector. In fact, he opened our first food wash site back in 2006 so he’s very well positioned to drive the business forward.”
