Ashmolean: A message from our director
The Ashmolean’s doors have been open since 1683, so it was difficult to close them this week.
However, the health and safety of our visitors, students, supporters, staff and volunteers is paramount, and so the Museum is temporarily closed. We will be reviewing this and will keep you updated.
It is hard being closed at the very moment when we are all most in need of the perspective, inspiration and enjoyment that museums can provide. We are working on ways in which you can continue to enjoy our collections and their many stories online until we can welcome you back to the Museum.
Thank you for your support in these unsettling times and we look forward to welcoming you back when our museum reopens.
Best wishes
Xa Sturgis
Director, Ashmolean Museum
