Blenheim February Update
We’re still bringing you the best of the Blenheim Estate so you can stay home and stay connected. Your February Update features stories from the Estate, plus inspiration and activities from our friends and partners. With brighter days upon us the estate is starting to show signs of new growth, with snowdrops lining the ground and Spring babies on the way.
Important Notice: Due to the ongoing conservation work, the Grand Bridge is closed for vehicles from Monday 8th February, and closed for both vehicles and pedestrians as from Monday 15th February, for three weeks.
The Park
We’re sure we aren’t the only ones truly missing crisp walks across the peaceful Estate this winter so we’ve captured the best of the Blenheim Estate to share with you. Explore our series of 5 Minutes of Relaxation videos taken from our favourite spots across the Park and Gardens. It’s proven that time in nature boosts your mood and improves mental health so practice some mindfulness and enjoy an escape from the every day.
Life on the Estate
Our shepherds have had a busy week working to scan 988 of our ewes. With over 1900 lambs expected this Spring we have the highest rate we’ve ever achieved at Blenheim Estate! With 10 weeks to go before our fields become full of lively lambs, it’s a busy time for our teams.
We’ve donated over 200 saplings to a team of volunteers helping to re-plant an ancient hedgerow as part of a wildlife conservation project in Bladon. The hedgerow will provide a new wildlife habitat for native British species of birds, small mammals and butterflies.
Our Homes
You may have spent a little longer in your home the past few months and be thinking of ways change up your spaces. Our interior designer Claire has shared with us the best trends coming with us into 2021 and we think you’ll love them too. We’re talking about creating multi-functional spaces, making the most of warm colours and introducing tropical vibes to your home.
In the Garden
Did you know, to determine the age of an oak, you measure its girth; every metre of circumference is 100 years of growth. Of our 200+ ancient oaks in High Park, this magnificent specimen is called King Oak, but can you guess how old it is? Why not have a try at guessing the age of oaks near you on your next walk.
Keeping your little ones engaged with nature is all the more important this season. There’s plenty of activities to enjoy at home or a little muddier in your local green spaces. From scavenger hunts to jigsaw puzzles try one of the Woodland Trust’s activities this half term.
In the Kitchen
With Pancake Day on the horizon we’ve got two delicious recipes from our partner Searcys to share for you to try. Whether you want to fancy up fluffy pancakes with caramelised apple, maple candied pecans and vanilla crème fraiche or keep them fresh and fruity with berries and natural yoghurt.
