Blown away by The Hooley
Sometimes it’s difficult to put emotions into words. This last week has been full of emotion as we performed The Hooley for the final time. A wonderful show from the imagination of Nell Gifford and Cal McCrystal. Lovingly crafted by our genius director Cal McCrystal, drawing on his Irish heritage.
This show was a Hooley from start to finish, delayed from 2020, then opening amidst a pandemic in May 2021. The added Covid safety measures, the worry of catching it and the constant worry of potentially having to shut, then in August the reality of having to shut for ten days! It’s been a challenge from start to finish.
Our performers, restaurant team, front of house and behind the scenes teams have been amazing, going above and beyond to keep the show on the road.
Despite the pandemic the shows have been sold out and our audiences have been amazing, clapping and cheering from behind their masks, you wouldn’t know there was a reduced capacity at all!
Nell would always use the David Niven quote; “Keep the circus going inside you, keep it going, don’t take anything too seriously, it’ll all work out in the end.”
So, with Nell’s words in our hearts we are very excited to share with you news of our new Winter Sauce restaurant opening next month and our 2022 UK tour…
This Winter Giffords Circus’s much-loved restaurant ‘Circus Sauce’ is taking up a residency at the newly opened Old Gore Barn near Cirencester in the heart of the Cotswolds.
Serving a set-menu inspired by local and seasonal produce, the team is led by Executive Chef Ols Halas, co-author of the Giffords Circus Cookbook. Expect a dining experience like no other, hearty, joyful food served banquet style on Emma Bridgewater platters and inspired by Giffords Circus.
Winter Sauce launches on Friday, 12th November and will be open on selected evenings serving a five-course banquet of local seasonal gastronomic fayre as well as three-course Sunday lunches.

Winter Sauce seats a maximum of 100 people on banquet style seating. The restaurant can be booked exclusively for Christmas parties, subject to availability. There is a bar on site managed and run by The Old Gore Barn. Dietary requirements are catered for as long as stated when booking.

Giffords Circus is back in 2022 with a brand-new show directed by Cal McCrystal.
The UK tour opens at the Circus’s HQ Fennells Farm in Stroud, Gloucestershire on 14th April 2022, Easter weekend, before touring the UK taking in all your favourite venues such as Bowood House & Gardens, Daylesford Organic, Sudeley Castle, Blenheim Palace, Chiswick House & Gardens, Stonor Park, Barrington, Minchinhampton Common, Marlborough Common and Stratton Meadows in Cirencester.
New for 2022 are Evenley Wood Gardens in Northamptonshire and Home Farm Live in Elstree, Hertfordshire and we are really excited to be returning to Frampton on Severn.
