Flourishing firms expand rapidly on Didcot industrial estate

A Didcot industrial estate has accommodated rapid expansion by a clutch of highly successful businesses.

The Southmead Industrial Estate was already home for Sofea, Endeavour Engineering and Oxford Lasers but all have moved to larger premises on the development with deals being completed by commercial property specialists VSL.

Unit 1D at Trident Park has been to Sofea, a charity which helps with food distribution and offers employment support for young people and adults. Sofea already occupied 5,500 sq ft at Trident Park and is now taking a further 10,500 sq ft on a 7 year lease, trebling its footprint.

Precision engineering company Endeavour Engineering which manufactures a wide range of metallic, composite and plastic materials, has doubled in size, letting 3,720 sq ft at Unit 1F on a 6 year lease, next door to its existing premises.

Another company doubling its floorspace is Oxford Lasers which has now let 10,627 sq ft at 11 Moorbrook Park on the estate on a 10 year lease, adding to its existing premises at 8 Moorbrook Park.

The building will be the new home for the manufacturing, engineering and purchasing departments of the laser technology specialists which also has two sites in the United States and a further base in France.

Southmead Industrial Estate is located to the west of Didcot town centre. The Park consists of 39 modern, self-contained business units within a complex of interlinked buildings.

Meanwhile, VSL has also completed the freehold sale of industrial premises at 12 Harrier Park on the estate to a local confectionery company.

The company which makes protein bars, has bought a 2,015 sq ft two storey industrial building with office space. The industrial unit has been sold to a private individual who will be using the unit for packing, storage and distribution.

VSL director Tom Barton said: “To see local companies from a variety of industries expanding rapidly and staying close to their roots is fantastic and a real vote of confidence in Didcot and the Oxfordshire economy.

“We are also pleased to see new business moving in signalling the continuing recovery and growth in the region as a whole.”
