HEADWAY OXFORDSHIRE WIN BBC MAKE A DIFFERENCE AWARD
Oxfordshire’s only specialist provider of support services to those affected by brain injury has received recognition for it’s amazing work through the BBC’s Make A Difference Awards.
Last month, local charity and proud B4 members Headway Oxfordshire were invited to attend a fantastic ceremony at the Kassam stadium, where (to their great surprise) they were awarded the trophy for best ‘Community Group’.
Headway Oxfordshire’s CEO, Jamie Miller says: “It’s wonderful to get recognition for the whole team, both past and present. It’s our amazing staff and volunteers that make Headway Oxfordshire such a positive place, providing an environment of support and encouragement, that really makes a difference to the rehabilitation outcomes of those living with such a complex condition. Thank you to those that voted for us and to the BBC for helping us to raise awareness of brain injury within our community”.
In Oxfordshire, 4,000 people are admitted to hospital with brain injuries each year. Every one of these injuries is unique, so Headway Oxfordshire (HWO) aims to provide tailored, regular support and rehabilitation to those that need it. Whether it’s support through the initial stages whilst in hospital, or post discharge, back within the community, HWO provides a wide range of assistance and practical support to improve rehabilitation outcomes and personal independence long term.
Headway Oxfordshire never stands still and right now, the charity is developing meaningful mutually beneficial partnerships with the likes of Radley College. This exciting new partnership sees the Radley boys engaging with Headway Oxfordshire and directly with our service users, extoling the virtues of community engagement and social responsibility. A number of practical activities such as a Sensory Garden project and a pilot Animal Husbandry and Farming project have been launched.
The charity is also very excited to be relaunching their Carer’s Information and Networking Evenings. This will be an opportunity for carers of people with acquired brain injuries to unwind, hear from professionals working in the field of brain injury, gain free legal advice and share experiences with their peers, all over a warm meal and refreshments.
Although this is an exciting time for Headway Oxfordshire and their great work is being recognised, they still need vital support from the community, to raise the funds necessary to ensure stability and continuation of service. So please get in touch with events@headway-oxford.org.uk for more info about how your business can support them.
