It’s a hive of activity at Howbery Park!
Howbery Business Park which covers a 70 acres site, including mature landscaped parkland close to Wallingford, has just finished fixing the labels on to the jars of Howbery Honey produced by its own on-site bees.
“We introduced the bee hives to Howbery Park in spring last year to make the most of our landscape, and to provide added interest for our tenants”, says Donna Bowles, Estates Manager, “so this autumn marks the first proper season for honey production, and the harvest has exceeded our expectations. We have been able to offer tenants and employees on the park the chance to learn more about honey bees, with a honey extraction workshop, and a visit with a master Bee Keeper to see inside the hives – in full protective clothing, of course!”
Robin Sergi, from grounds company Nurture Landscapes, manages the hives with help from Howbery Park’s Head Gardener, Ben Nash, who has recently completed LANTRA Bee keeping training.
Set in the grounds of a former Edwardian manor house, Howbery Business Park has invested in its green space, making the most of its tree-lined avenues and riverside setting. The UK’s first solar-powered business park, it prides itself on creating a sustainable, contemporary working environment for its tenants. The Park also recently created a dozen mini allotments in its Cottage Garden which it has made available to tenants so that employees on the park can get together to tend one for a year at a time.
