Nominations open for Oxfordshire’s Climate Action Heroes Awards
People and community groups at the forefront of climate action in Oxfordshire are to be recognised by the High Sheriff of Oxfordshire, Imam Monawar Hussain.
The High Sheriff’s new Climate Action Heroes Awards build on previous awards during 2021 that celebrated Oxfordshire’s COVID-19 heroes.
Imam Monawar Hussain, High Sheriff for Oxfordshire, said: “During my first year in the role as high sheriff, I have been dedicating time to thanking and celebrating Oxfordshire’s heroes – individuals and voluntary groups from all walks of life who have made exceptional contributions to their communities across the county.
“The climate emergency is the single biggest issue we are facing as a society. I would like to take the opportunity to recognise and celebrate those groups and individuals who have made a real difference and contributed to climate action in Oxfordshire.
“I hope to recognise people from all walks of life – young people, community groups, local businesses and beyond – anybody who has made an impact or inspired others to make a change themselves.”
People can submit their nominations using an online form. The deadline for nominations is 31 December 2021.
The judging panel will consist of experts in the climate action field. The list of winners will be announced mid-January 2022, followed by a high sheriff’s awards ceremony for the winners.
At the discretion of the judging panel, some winners may be awarded small grants to further their projects. The grants are reserved for non-profit groups or organisations, who have been successful in the following categories: community action, social enterprise or young people/schools. The grants are being provided by Oxfordshire County Council.

‘Often girls’ clothes are pink, cute and impractical. They promote kindness, but not always confidence. And boys’ clothes are often blue, aggressive and adventure seeking. They promote confidence, but not always kindness. I wanted to bring these two characteristics together and allow all children, no matter what their gender, to celebrate both kindness and confidence.’ – Sally Dear, Founder of Ducky Zebra
