Oxford Brookes University proud to pay Oxford Living Wage

Oxford Brookes University is pleased to announce that it has implemented the Oxford Living Wage.

The Oxford Living Wage is an hourly minimum rate of pay set by Oxford City Council that promotes liveable earnings for all workers. The rate is set at 95% of the London Living Wage, recognising the cost of living in Oxford.

The changes, which are being backdated by the University to 1 April, will benefit over 950 salaried, variable hours and casual staff.

Brendan Casey, Registrar and Chief Operating Officer said: “We are very pleased to confirm that Oxford Brookes has implemented the Oxford Living Wage, boosting the pay of over 950 staff on our lower pay scales, including many students who work for the University on a casual basis.

“At a time when the cost of living is high, we hope this will go some way to help staff on lower wages, and continue to make Oxford Brookes an attractive option for people in the city looking for employment.” Councillor Susan Brown, Leader of Oxford City Council, said: “I am really pleased to welcome Oxford Brookes University as an Oxford Living Wage employer. We ask all employers in the city to pay at least the Oxford Living Wage, as part of our work to make Oxford a more inclusive place, and so that people living and working in Oxford are able to afford a decent standard of living. In the current Cost of Living Crisis this is more important than ever. I would encourage other organisations, large and small to do the same, particularly at a time when the cost of living is such a concern for so many people. Paying staff a decent wage helps employers recruit and retain staff and is good for our local economy more generally.”
