Oxford Bus Company running Christmas and Boxing Day services to airports
The Oxford Bus Company will operate a festive service to both Heathrow and Gatwick Airports this Christmas.
The well-established Christmas Airline service will operate every 90 minutes between Oxford and Heathrow on December 25.On Boxing Day a special timetable will be provided from Oxford to serve both Heathrow (every 45 to 90 minutes) and Gatwick Airports (every 3 hours). A normal timetable will be in operation on Christmas Eve, with an early finish.
The Airline service is experiencing a further increase in passenger numbers after the US borders were recently re-opened to UK based travellers after nearly two years. It means travellers can now take transatlantic flights for long-awaited reunions with family and friends.
Phil Southall, Oxford Bus Company Managing Director, said: “The re-opening of the transatlantic corridor between Europe and the US is a significant milestone for the transport industry. For Oxfordshire residents and those visiting Oxford from overseas our Airline service provides vital connectivity between the two major airports and our city. We have seen some uptick in passenger numbers and hope to see this continue.
“Our Airline Christmas Day service has become an important service to our passengers. Across the festive period we have devised a combination of timetables designed to ensure we continue to provide a first-class service to customers.”
The Airline Flyer ticket which provides one ticket for an entire local bus and coach journey to and from Heathrow and Gatwick airports also remains available. The ticket is designed to encourage passengers to take a bus to connect to the Airline coach service. It means when passengers buy an Airline Flyer ticket their local bus journey on an Oxford Bus Company or Thames Travel bus is free. It applies to single, day, next day return or period return Airline coach tickets.
Oxford Bus Company has been providing local coach travel to Heathrow and Gatwick airports for 35 years. The Airline coaches include at seat trays to accommodate laptops and tablets, plus USB charging points and power-sockets. There are also monitors on-board, with sat-nav displays to enable passengers to check progress on their journey, just as they would when on an aeroplane. The coaches also boast free Wi-Fi, wheel-chair access and much improved luggage capacity for passengers’ suitcases and bags.
