Oxford events business rebrands in response to changing society

An Oxford based events business has re-branded – after its name was considered to have fallen behind the times.

Chris Jones founded Boys and Girls Promotions 14 years ago to provide event support to venues and businesses across Oxfordshire.

The respected company has established itself as the county’s leading event staffing company helping deliver public and private functions at prestigious venues for high-profile clients.

However, Mr Jones became aware the company name was no longer considered to be inclusive and so re-branded to Wave Staffing.

He said: “We conducted some market research among our client base and the wider community and it became apparent our name had become out of date.

“It no longer reflected who we are, what we stand for and where society is today. Society has changed and is continuing to evolve and it’s important to me that we ensure our brand epitomizes what we believe in.

“The name was well-received when we launched and the business has grown year-on-year and we have established ourselves as a key part of Oxfordshire’s events sector. I’m proud of what we have built and of the open, kind and supportive company culture we have developed.

“However, our recent research revealed the name was not inclusive enough, so we addressed it. I’m a black founder and our team has always been hugely diverse in terms of ethnicity, gender and sexuality. So, I wanted to make sure we’re better understood and positioned as a business.”

The rebrand has received a positive response within the business community since its recent launch.

“We rebranded as Wave Staffing, as we manage wide and varying events via a wide and variety team and felt the name reflects that,” said Mr Jones.

“We’ve had lots of fantastic feedback. Our network has been supportive, understood the decision and backed us people and a business, which is brilliant.”

Wave Staffing provides teams and services for various events including corporate and hospitality, luxury brand promotions, wedding staff and private functions. It has helped deliver events at a wide range of venues including Blenheim Palace, University of Oxford colleges and Bicester Heritage.

“We’ve built a good offering across 14 years and look forward to continuing to grow and helping deliver fantastic events across the county. Other than the name above the door nothing has changed, we’re the same team delivering the same services with passion and pride.

“We’ve had a busy start to the financial year, have a strong book of business for 2024 and are looking forward to helping fulfill events across Oxfordshire.”
