Oxfordshire’s green champions unite to host inaugural OX to ZERO conference
OxLEP joined forces with the leading Oxfordshire voices of the University of Oxford, Harwell Campus and the Culham Science Centre-based UKAEA to host the first-ever OX to ZERO conference (1 September).
Following-on from OxLEP’s official COP26 event last autumn, this inaugural one-day conference, hosted at the Blavatnik School of Government in Oxford, brought together dozens of the most-innovative thinkers, investors and entrepreneurs exploring the potential of new ideas and technologies ready to accelerate the net-zero transformation, in-turn, showcasing a host of game-changing capabilities that call Oxfordshire ‘home’.
Business leaders and respected sustainability thinkers covered topics via keynote discussions and panel sessions, ranging from fusion through to the future of transport, as well as discussing lofty ambitions around future energy storage and CO2 removal.
Following what’s been one of the Europe’s hottest summers and as concern continues to grow around the climate emergency, a clear message highlighted throughout OX to ZERO was that through investment and scalability, big ideas and solutions (developed and harnessed in Oxfordshire) can genuinely make major impacts in addressing climate change and at pace.
OxLEP’s Sebastian Johnson, who hosted two of the event’s panel discussions (and pictured above), said of OX to ZERO: “Oxfordshire has a history of delivering pioneering solutions to the world’s greatest challenges and we believe that the expertise and desire that exists in the county can be a critical driver to delivering the answers that can tackle the climate emergency head-on, and at pace too.
“With the right level of investment, Oxfordshire is well-set to ‘do more’ and create further solutions that can drive the world towards a zero-carbon future.
“OX to ZERO was able to further amplify this message far-and-wide and result in an even greater awareness of our stand-out, world-leading innovation ecosystem.”
