The end of our inaugural 2019 Blanc de Noirs

The first Blanc de Noirs we have released and the only one for quite some time to come. Created from a single parcel of south facing Pinot Noir, harvested late in the season.

Now, with only a couple of hundred bottles remaining, our 2019 Blanc de Noirs will only available to our Friends and Members. This prestigious wine has received a great reception from its release last year, gracing the wine lists of the Fife Arms in Braemar, Estelle Manor in Oxfordshire, Raffles at the OWO,  and Alex Dilling at Hotel Café Royal to name a few.

A favourite of many, including Jancis Robinson. It was the highest rated English sparkling in Jancis’ 2022 review across almost every English winery. Her notes at the time being
“Just lovely already…round and orangey…reaches every nook and cranny on the palate”.

2019 was a cooler vintage than the previous two years, enabling the Pinot Noir to retain its fresh acidity, whilst the late harvest allowed for wonderful flavour profiles to develop, leading to a refined, elegant wine.

Deep gold in colour with a pleasant peach skin pink reflection. A core of vibrant acidity and blood orange zestiness draw together the generous, round palate of ripe Pinot Noir. Intense layers of red fruit; macerated strawberry, raspberries, red apple and morello cherries lead into a deeper layer of ripe nectarines and juicy flat peaches with cream.

With its powerful acidity structure we expect this wine to keep developing for many years to come. These aspects cannot be achieved perfectly in Pinot Noir every year so this is not a wine we will create every vintage making it especially distinct.

The next vintage we chose to make a Blanc de Noirs was 2021, another cool vintage in the vineyard and later harvest allowing the Pinot Noir to develop beautifully once more. We do have a limited number of 2019 Blanc de Noir in magnums currently ageing in the cellar and will look to release these just in time for Christmas, so watch this space.
