Keeping Oxfordshire Moving: Daisi Hyett on the People, Passion and Ambition Behind M&M Waste Solutions

22nd Oct 2026

With approximately 22,000 vehicle movements a year, a commitment to recycling 98% of the waste it receives and a renewed determination to become Oxfordshire’s go-to waste solutions provider, B4 Member M&M Waste Solutions is looking confidently to the future. We caught up with Daisi Hyett, Head of Transport, to discover the people, principles and ambitions driving the business forward.

There are some businesses whose presence across Oxfordshire is impossible to miss. With its distinctive blue and yellow vehicles regularly travelling through the county, M&M Waste Solutions is certainly one of them. But behind those familiar lorries is a family-run business with considerable operational expertise, strong local roots and an enthusiasm for building even closer relationships with its customers and the wider business community.

For Daisi Hyett, who recently joined M&M as Head of Transport, the opportunity is about building on those foundations and bringing fresh energy to an already established business. She is keen to reintroduce M&M to the B4 community, showcase the breadth of its services and encourage more businesses to discover what the company can offer.

“We’ve got solid foundations, but we’re here with a lot of energy,” Daisi explains. “We want to be really present in the market and become everybody’s go-to supplier. We want to be customer-focused, give the best service and never forget our roots as a family-run business.”

It’s an ambition backed by someone who knows the transport industry exceptionally well.

MM2Fifteen Years of Experience and Still Learning

Daisi began her career in transport at just 18, undertaking an apprenticeship before developing her experience across an impressive range of industries. Over the past 15 years, she has worked in retail, construction, utilities and food distribution, managing everything from frozen and chilled deliveries to building materials.

That breadth of experience was deliberate. Rather than specialising in one area, Daisi wanted to understand the different operational challenges that businesses face and develop the skills to overcome them.

“I’ve moved all over the country and managed all sorts of different transport departments,” she explains. “The reason I did that was to get a really good, in-depth understanding of the challenges you can encounter.”

Along the way, her responsibilities expanded beyond transport into commercial operations, customer service and workshop management. At M&M, her remit includes the company’s workshop alongside its transport operations, reflecting her willingness to get involved wherever improvements can be made.

It’s also what keeps her motivated.

“I could never do a job where it’s the same thing every single day. With transport, customers and the workshop, there are so many different challenges. Every day something else comes along and you think, ‘Okay, let’s deal with that, make an improvement and get better.'”

That appetite for problem-solving is particularly valuable in an industry where customer expectations, legislative requirements, safety standards and operational efficiency must all be balanced.

A Local Business Operating at Scale

Although M&M’s vehicles are a familiar sight throughout Oxfordshire, the scale of its operation may surprise people.

The business has a team of 21 drivers undertaking approximately 22,000 vehicle movements annually. Its delivery area is deliberately concentrated around Oxfordshire, enabling the company to provide a responsive, efficient service to customers across the county.

“We keep our delivery area quite focused,” says Daisi. “That means we can be very efficient. We undertake short, medium and longer journeys within our operating area, with pricing that reflects those distances.”

While future expansion is part of the ambition, Daisi is clear that growth must not compromise the service customers already receive.

“We want to expand, but we want to maintain that level of service. That’s really important.”

And while skip hire may be the service most readily associated with M&M, Daisi is keen to emphasise that the business offers broader waste management solutions for both commercial and domestic customers.

For the business community, that means having access to an experienced local supplier that understands the importance of reliability, communication and flexibility.

MM1Sustainability Beyond the Skip

Waste management has an increasingly important role to play in helping businesses meet their environmental responsibilities, and Daisi believes customers should understand what happens to their waste after collection.

“When people put waste into a skip, they might imagine it going straight to a huge landfill site,” she says. “But we actually recycle 98% of everything that comes in.”

M&M has permits allowing it to process more than 272,000 tonnes of waste annually across its four permitted operations. According to Daisi, just 2% of the waste received is sent to landfill.

It’s a significant part of the company’s proposition, particularly as organisations face growing expectations around sustainability, responsible procurement and reducing their environmental impact.

For Daisi, the opportunity is not simply to collect waste efficiently but to help customers recognise the value of choosing a supplier committed to responsible waste processing.

Safety Is a Culture, Not Just a Process

With thousands of vehicle movements every year, safety is naturally central to M&M’s operations. But Daisi’s approach goes beyond procedures, policies and paperwork.

“It’s not a process that keeps people safe, it’s a culture,” she explains. “We make sure everybody knows the rules, has the right training and has the right equipment to do their job safely.”

That doesn’t mean becoming complacent about risk. Instead, Daisi believes a strong safety culture gives people the confidence and competence to carry out their responsibilities properly.

Her approach to staff development is equally thoughtful. Having managed teams with very different skills and responsibilities, she recognises that effective training cannot follow a single formula.

“Every single person is different. Someone working in sales may learn very differently from somebody who is more vocational and needs practical, activity-based training. It’s your job as a manager to find the best way to support and develop that person.”

It’s an approach that reflects a wider philosophy of leadership: understanding individuals, creating the right environment and giving people the tools to succeed.

1624521472606Leadership That Sets the Tone

One of the reasons Daisi speaks so enthusiastically about M&M is the leadership she has encountered since joining.

She credits Group Managing Director Rob Fluckiger with creating an environment where people feel encouraged to contribute ideas and make positive changes.

“To have an MD who’s been within a business for a significant number of years and is still so open and passionate about driving it forward is really motivating,” she says. “When somebody leads by example and leads from the front, that engages the whole team.”

For Daisi, that enthusiasm is infectious. It creates the confidence to challenge existing ways of working, introduce improvements and continually look for opportunities to strengthen the business.

Asked to sum up what makes M&M special in just three words, her answer is straightforward:

“Safety, quality and service.”

Those three principles underpin her ambitions for the company and the experience she wants every customer to receive.

Renewed Energy for the B4 Community

An important part of M&M’s plans is becoming more actively involved in B4 and reconnecting with fellow members.

Daisi is enthusiastic about the opportunity to build relationships, understand the needs of local businesses and make M&M a familiar, approachable presence within the community. The intention is to build on the company’s longstanding reputation while ensuring that members understand the breadth of services and support available.

That commitment extends to businesses of all sizes, including newer companies that may not yet have an established credit history. Daisi emphasises that M&M is keen to work constructively with local businesses wherever possible, subject to the appropriate checks and terms.

For members looking to establish an ongoing relationship with a waste management provider, she encourages a conversation rather than assuming their requirements cannot be accommodated.

OfferB4 Member Privilege: Preferential Rates and Corporate Accounts

As part of its renewed engagement with the B4 community, M&M Waste Solutions is introducing a B4 Member Privilege designed to make waste management easier and more cost-effective for local businesses.

B4 Members can apply to open a corporate account directly through Daisi and the M&M team, subject to the usual credit checks. M&M will also do its best to provide members with preferential rates, alongside the responsive, reliable service that Daisi is so passionate about delivering.

For November, M&M is offering six-yard skip hire at £250 + VAT, subject to the promotional terms and conditions. The offer provides an opportunity for members to experience the company’s services and explore the benefits of a longer-term relationship.

Daisi is particularly keen to hear from businesses of all sizes, whether they have regular waste management requirements or simply need occasional support.

Members will also have the opportunity to meet Daisi and Rob Fluckiger, Group Managing Director at M&M Waste Solutions, at the B4 Platinum Breakfast on 4 November at Blenheim Palace.

Building on Strong Foundations

For a business already so visible across Oxfordshire, the next chapter is not necessarily about becoming better known. It’s about ensuring more people understand the breadth of services, expertise and customer commitment behind those familiar blue and yellow vehicles.

Daisi brings a combination of experience, enthusiasm and practical leadership to that ambition. She understands that sustainable business growth depends on more than increasing volumes or expanding operations. It requires motivated people, consistent service, a strong safety culture and customers who know they can rely on you.

M&M Waste Solutions may have established roots, but its determination to keep improving is unmistakable.

And with Daisi helping to drive that ambition, there’s every reason to expect those distinctive vehicles to remain a familiar sight across Oxfordshire for many years to come.
