Twenty Years of B4: More Than a Business Community, a Community of Friends

8th Oct 2026

Twenty years after B4 first opened its doors at Oxford Castle, members, partners, friends and family gathered at Blenheim Palace on 10th September 2026 to celebrate a remarkable milestone. But as the messages received afterwards revealed, this was a celebration of something much more significant than an organisation reaching its 20th anniversary.

It was a celebration of relationships. Of friendships that have developed over decades. Of businesses supporting one another, connections turning into opportunities, and people coming together through a shared belief in the value of community.

For B4 Chief Executive Richard Rosser and Events Manager Tina Rosser, the evening was an opportunity to reflect on the journey since B4’s launch on 29th June 2006, to thank those who have helped shape its development and to look ahead to the next chapter.

The setting could hardly have been more appropriate. Blenheim Palace has become an important part of B4’s story, hosting countless memorable gatherings and helping establish the community’s reputation for bringing people together in exceptional surroundings.

But it was the people, rather than the magnificent venue, who made this particular evening so special.

A Community That Feels Like Family

Perhaps the most striking theme running through the messages received after the celebration was the extraordinary warmth and sense of belonging experienced by guests.

Gemma Sills of The Story Museum captured this beautifully:

“One of my favourite things about B4 is it’s a family. Not just through yourselves, Abi, Edward and Sue, but you so graciously bring everyone else into your family and evenings like last night perfectly showcase the warmth and welcoming nature of B4.” Gemma also reflected on B4’s original purpose: “Well done on building so many incredible bridges between businesses — it’s now firmly imprinted on my brain!”

Peter McLintock of Mills & Reeve echoed that sentiment, thanking Richard and Tina for a wonderful evening and hoping they had managed to appreciate “all the love that was in the room (a lot!).”

It was a recurring observation. Several guests described the celebration as feeling almost like a wedding, such was the atmosphere of friendship, affection and shared history.

Alison Haill, CEO of Oxford Professional Consulting, reflected on the many years she has worked alongside B4, supporting projects involving presentations, leadership, teamwork and the B4 CEO Circle. “We’ve gone through so many projects over the years, B4 and I, working together on presentations, leadership and teamwork, and latterly the CEO Circle, all of which have been rewarding for me.” Her reflections illustrated something fundamental about B4. Relationships are not measured simply by the number of introductions made or business cards exchanged. Their real value often emerges over many years.

A Special Partnership with Blenheim Palace

Blenheim Palace has played an important role in B4’s development, and the anniversary celebration provided an opportunity to recognise the people behind that relationship.

Dominic Hare, Chief Executive Officer of Blenheim Palace, reflected on the significance of the occasion: “I was very honoured that you wanted to bring such a special occasion to us, and we certainly hope and believe we are an important part of each other’s journeys.” He added: “Here’s to the next 20 years…”

Heather Carter, Managing Director of Heritage Businesses at Blenheim Palace, was equally generous in her reflections: “B4 has built an incredible community over the last two decades, and we are proud to have been part of that journey.”

Former Blenheim Palace CEO John Hoy, who was instrumental in establishing the relationship between B4 and Blenheim, offered a particularly personal reflection on the evening.

Referring to Richard’s tribute to his late father, Colin Rosser, John wrote: “It was good to see you surrounded by your family — and I agree that your father would have been super-proud of all that you have achieved (and will continue to achieve) and his presence was very much in the room last night.”

These relationships, spanning different chapters of B4’s history, demonstrate how partnerships built on mutual respect and trust can develop into something genuinely enduring.

The Power of Connections, Old and New

While the anniversary was naturally an opportunity to revisit 20 years of memories, it also highlighted the continuing relevance of B4’s approach to bringing people together.

Roy Cox, Managing Director of Commercial Businesses at Blenheim Palace, experienced an unexpected reunion: “I walked into the room and met someone I’d not seen since we left school…! The power of your network.”

For newer members, the evening provided a different perspective. Samantha, who had joined B4 relatively recently, described how welcomed she had felt from the outset: “I’ve already met some great people and started building some really good relationships, particularly with other local business owners, which is exactly what I’d hoped for when I joined.”

She continued: “It didn’t feel like a typical business event at all, and I think the warmth in the room said a lot about the community you’ve built.”

This is perhaps one of the most important observations of all. B4 is not simply a network for those who have known one another for 20 years. It is a community that continues to welcome new faces, new businesses and new perspectives, ensuring that its connections remain relevant, accessible and valuable.

Connections That Make a Difference

The impact of B4 extends beyond commercial relationships. During his anniversary speech, Richard highlighted Thames Valley Air Ambulance and the importance of Air Ambulance Week.

Following the event, Nadia Cheddi of Thames Valley Air Ambulance reflected on the conversations that followed: “I had great conversations with people who came up to me afterwards.”

It was a simple but powerful reminder that providing a platform for organisations, charities and individuals to share their stories can create opportunities for greater understanding, support and collaboration. This commitment to meaningful connections continues to influence B4’s development, including its work with charities, emerging leaders and senior decision-makers across Oxfordshire.

Minnie Fledderus-Diaconu, Senior Sales Manager at Blenheim Palace, summed up the importance of sustaining that community: “Well done to you both for everything you do to keep this community and engagement going.” Having attended the anniversary celebration, Minnie had also registered to attend the recent NX summit, demonstrating how B4’s wider community continues to evolve and create new opportunities for engagement.

Remembering the People Behind the Journey

For Richard, the anniversary was also deeply personal. His speech reflected on the contribution of family, colleagues, friends and supporters who have played a part in B4’s development, including his late father, Colin. Longstanding friend John Kennedy recalled Colin’s encouragement during B4’s early years: “I think a lot about your dad and how influential and supportive he was of you, B4 and me in my City career.” He added: “B4 is another tribute to Colin and I feel his guidance and presence with you and your family.”

For Richard and Tina, the evening was also an opportunity to acknowledge the contributions of those who have supported B4 behind the scenes, helping turn ideas into events, introductions into relationships and ambitions into reality. The anniversary cake, the personal stories, the laughter and the many reunions all contributed to an evening that guests will remember for a long time.

Twenty Years On, the Purpose Remains

Since launching in 2006, B4 has grown into an established business community, delivering more than 60 in-person events each year. Its programme now encompasses Platinum breakfasts and dinners, member lunches, roundtable discussions, peer groups, business ecosystems and major events such as the Oxfordshire Business Summit.

Alongside B4, initiatives including Corum for senior leaders, NX for ambitious professionals under 35 and Raise’s charitable work demonstrate a continuing commitment to creating meaningful opportunities for people and organisations to connect. The formats may have changed, the venues have evolved and the community has grown, but the underlying principle remains remarkably consistent.

Bring good people together, create an environment where meaningful conversations can take place, and allow relationships to develop naturally.

As B4 looks towards its next 20 years, its ambition is not simply to host more events. It is to build on the trust and connections established over two decades, creating even greater opportunities for shared knowledge, collaboration, learning and development. And if the response to the anniversary celebration demonstrated anything, it is that those foundations are exceptionally strong.

Experience B4 for Yourself

The 20th anniversary was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate B4’s past, but its future will be shaped by the people and businesses who become part of the community in the years ahead.

Whether you are an established business leader, an entrepreneur, a professional looking to broaden your connections or an organisation keen to engage more closely with Oxfordshire’s business community, we would be delighted to hear from you.
